We are interested in investing in your future in nursing. We offer Educational Leave for full/part-time paid time away from regular job responsibities for training or education at a vocational school, technical school, or college, or university. When you submit your request and upon its approval, you would be released from regular work assignments without loss of pay or benefits to attend courses. The courses must relate to current or prospective job duties.
An employee is obligated to sign an agreement prior to receiving Educaitonal Leave
- the employee will receive educational leave that is paid for by the agency; and
- during the training period, the employee will not perform regular duties for three or more months.
An employee who incurs an obligation to the agency may be required to
- work for the agency following the training for at least one month for each month of the training period; or
- pay the agency for all of the costs associated with the training that were paid during the training period, including any amounts of the employee's salary that were paid and that were not accounted for as paid leave.
The eligibility criteria for educational leave depend on the time needed to attend vocational, technical, or academic courses.
If the vocational, technical, or academic program requires release from regular work assignments, part-time or full-time, the employee must meet the following criteria:
- successful completion of the probationary period, and
- an overall rating of at least "Competent" (3) on the employee's most recent performance evaluation.
The agency head or designee may waive the eligibility criteria when the training or education addresses a critical shortage skill or occupation.
Agency employees approved for educational leave are eligible for all employee benefits, including sick leave and vacation leave accruals.
