Congratulations to Leslie Wilson, BSN, RN-BC

By Sheila Kunick

Leslie Wilson, RN, TSH Nurse Administrator was honored with a luncheon for his completion of his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing. He was honored at a Pinning Ceremony at the University of Texas at Arlington's College of Nursing.

The Nursing Program at UTA has a Mentor Program in which seniors in nursing will mentor their fellow students, giving of their time and knowledge. This is a prestigious position as mentors are selected and appointed by faculty member. Mr. Wilson was selected to serve as mentor this past year, and was asked to give the Recognition of Mentors speech at the graduation ceremony.

Mr. Wilson has worked at TSH for 22 years. His years of experience also include one year of Surgical/Telemetry Nursing at Mother Frances Hospital and 23 years in psychiatric nursing. He has worked on the Medical Unit, Geriatric Unit, and the Behavioral Unit as an LVN. He worked on Unit L Insight Oriented Program for Borderline Personality Disorders. He has also worked on the Adult Acute Unit, Admissions Coordinator for Terrell State Hospital for seven years through the roll-out of the North STAR project, and the last two and half years as Nurse Administrator for Acute and Medical Services. He oversees Units K, L, 7, Med II, Geriatrics, Admissions, ECT, Central Supply, Clinic Services, Radiology/ECG/EEG Services, and Transportation.

"I remember always being around hospitals, nurses, and doctors, because my mother was a nurse and I was always interested in working in the medical field. I remember telling Mr. Brooks, my sixth grade science teacher, that I wanted to be a Registered Nurse and he was very encouraging. I recall he told me, 'If I was smart that is what I should do.' That stuck in my mind so my mother and Mr. Brooks are the reasons I went into Nursing," said Mr. Wilson.

Leslie also is on our Videos and Fun Stuff page and talks about his experience and work at Terrell State Hospital.  We are proud to have Leslie on our nursing team and extend our heartfelt "Congratulations".
