 2009 Summer Healthcare Camp

The 2009 Summer Healthcare Camp was a huge success.  Terrell State Hospital, along with Kaufman Presbyterian Hospital, Terrell High School, and Lake Country Area Health Education Center hosted 13 Terrell High School students the week of June 8-12.  The students involved were: Juniors -Michelle Foster, Tony Chhay, Haley Taylor, Jerome Finney, Eddy Rodriquez; Sophomore, Alex Rusky, and Seniors Brittany Williams, Shakura Seay, Max Valenzuela, Erica El-Moghrabi, Alyssa Tolbert, Tiffany Barnes, and Andrea Gray.

The students visited Baylor Medical Center of Garland, Risinger Veterinary Hospital, Family Medical Center of Terrell, TVCC Health Science Center, Prospect Mountain Therapeutic Riding Center, and experienced the TSH emergency preparedness drill which took place Friday, June 12, 2009.  A Graduation Ceremony was held on Friday of the camp.

One of the highlights of the camp was the opportunity for the 13 Terrell HS students to participate in the hospital's emergency response exercise coordinated in conjunction with Terrell Fire Department and Rescue, as well as experiencing a helicopter evacuation exercise sponsored by Air Evac out of Ennis, Texas.  The students enjoyed being in a simulated smoke filled building and being rescued by the Terrell firemen.  See Disater Drill page on our website.

The students enjoyed the camp and gained valuable insights in emergency preparation and drills at the hospital.
